Reply with quote | #1 | Hiked a number of trails in Rocky Mountain National Park Labor Day weekend. First was to Mitchell Lake and Blue Lake, an eight-mile round trip with gradual elevation. A good warm up hike. Blue lake is peaceful, surrounded by towering mountains and patches of snow. A waterfall breaks the silence at the far side. Second hike started at Glacier Basin campground. Views were spectacular. We hiked through a forest to Sprague Lake, then climbed to Alberta Falls. The aspens were turning yellow, making a colorful hike. Round trip about 12 miles. It rained off and on, but we didn't mind. Third hike was Wild Basin to Ouzel Lake. A fantastic 10 mile hike with something new to see around every turn. Cascades, waterfalls, devastation from old forest fires leaving scarred trees, beautiful vistas, giant rock formations, and wildlife. Got ten feet from a bull moose who was calmly eating aspen twigs along with two youngsters and their mom in the lowland forest. Definitely want to go back and spend more time at the high elevations. Anybody want to join me? |
